Ray's Flower

Three summers ago my neighbor Ray surprised me with a beautiful tropical plant called Clevia.  It only blooms once a year and usually very early in the spring When I posted a photo of it to Facebook several friends asked why I wasn't using it for a painting.  Yesterday I asked myself the same question.  So here it is.  Not being a literalism painter, it doesn't do it justice; however, it will remind me all year long just how breath taking this plant really is. The bloom is almost as large as both of my hands side by side.  Today with our weather threatening snow it also makes me ache for the tropics.   It definitely brightened a gloomy day here in Columbia.

Beautiful Laine, and it does brighten a not so pretty day.
